Guar Gum: Three Major Health Benefits

Guar gum is more commonly used to enhance the flavor and texture and extend the shelf life of processed foods. Scientific studies, however, have shown that it has the potential to benefit the health too. Guar bean (Cyamopsis tetragonoloba), usually in ground form, has vast amounts of galactomannan gum, which becomes a gel when the ground bean combines with water. This mixture is used as a health supplement by a lot of people.

Below are polyprointl.com/procol-guar-gum/ guar gum's three most important health benefits:

Indigestion Relief

The most recent news regarding guar gum's health benefits comes from Italy, where scholars  where scholars studied a group of people who had irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). After the first study, the world's attention was captured by the results sa the guar gum appeared as if it eased not just the diarrhea but also the constipation that often come with IBS, and even reduced the abdominal pain.

In the next study, it was clear that introducing guar gum to the current IBS therapies then eliminated 91% of the small intestine's bacterial overgrowth, as compared to a mere 86 percent with the original therapies alone.

So what is the advantage you get with guar gum?It might be the fact that the fibre also limits intestinal 'transit time,' which simply means that moving stools - and the unwanted bacteria in them - can be excreted faster from the body. Other studies have revealed that guar gum helps to manage constipation and stimulate the release of mucin, which is a natural lubricant that soothes the bowel.

Feeding Probiotics

Bacteria don't always make us sick. An increasing stack of research proves that a healthy balance of probiotics, or 'good bugs,' in your digestive system can help solve gastrointestinal problems, prevent allergies in kids and even impact weight. One secret to nurturing the beneficial bugs is to feed them right with 'prebiotics,' including guar gum.

Another research project in Italy showed that people who had guar gum everyday had more of two types of probiotics, Bifidobacteria and Lactobacillus, in their intestinal tract. Results were similar to those of a UK research, in which 31 volunteers ate biscuits infused  with polyprointl.com guar gum or a placebo. The levels of healthy bugs increased for those in the guar group.

Cholesterol Control

In the 1980s through the 1990s, Finish scholars took an in-depth look at the effects of guar gum powder on people with diabetes and hypercholesterolemia (high blood cholesterol levels), and the findings were intriguing. In the study, 39 diabetics (Type 2) had a 5-milligram teaspoon of guar gum mixed with milk, water or juice, thrice a day. By the 14th month, their total cholesterol levels had declined by a maximum of 7 percent. In two similar Finnish research projects involving 32 diabetics (Type 1 and 2), guar gum decreased their blood glucose after meals and gave them better long-term blood glucose levels, reducing their risk for diabetes-related complications, such as blindness, kidney failure, etc. So what's the lesson we can learn all these? Definitely, guar gum cannot replace diabetes medications, but it can be effective as an adjunct treatment.
